Summit program details

The academic track contains two offerings: A) Scientific papers and B) Projects and papers in process. Option A: Scientific papers – is hosted by Christian Stracke and Oddgeir Tveiten. Option B: Projects and papers in progress – is hosted by Donna Kidwell. Workshops with PhD students run parallel. The details can be found here

A-A: Scientific publications: Based on double-blind peer review, these presentations will be published in full in our Summit proceedings.

A-B: Projects presentations: Less demanding accept routines, and subject to approval beyond the Scientific publications date. Please review our deadlines. A selection of these presentations, including PhD projects and papers, will be included in a separate online Extended summit proceedings.

This program is being set up on the basis of incoming proposals. Please keep coming back. We will notify summit attendees of any major change.

EdTech Session Topics —WLS 2017

  • These sessions will be informal, intimate, and highly interactive, giving session attendees plenty of opportunities to join in the discussion and interacting with the panelists
  • If you would like to be considered as a session panelist, to share your perspectives, please contact Eilif Trondsen etrondsen@sbi-i.com as soon as possible
  1. Session Topic: Edtech Journeys: Stories from Nordic Edupreneurs and Lessons Learned

Session Abstract: This session will give some of our Nordic edupreneurs a chance to share some high and low points in their journey and lessons they can pass to others. In the interactive part of the session we will invite others to share some of their key lessons learned, either from domestic markets or from what they have been doing on the international front.

__________

  1. Session Topic: Nordic Edtech Ecosystem: Status report of recent changes and what lies ahead

Session Abstract: We had a similar session last year, and we now want to hear what progress has been made and what kinds of issues they have faced in each of the Nordic countries, and are now facing as they look to continue to build their national ecosystems and help build a more Nordic edtech community.

_________

  1. Session Topic: International Market Perspectives: Nordic Success Stories and Challenges

Session Abstract: Claned has had some interesting and positive experiences in Asia and the Middle East and Kahoot has done very well in North America (where ca 75% of their users are); so we want to hear what successes and challenges Nordic edtech companies have had, and what they have learned from their internationalization strategies.

__________

  1. Session Topic: Leading/Bleeding Tech in Edtech: Future Role and Opportunities in AI and VR/AR

Session Abstract: This session will focus on companies that are leading risk takers and early adopters of emergent technologies, and how they see domestic and international opportunities emerging for edtech products and services using these very early-stage technologies. What can we learn from what is happening in international edtech markets on these tech fronts? And how do Nordic and other investors view edtech players focusing on these emerging technologies?

__________

  1. Session Topic: Nordic Game-Based Learning in Edtech: Opportunities and Challenges

Session Abstract: About 20% of the companies participating in our recent survey claimed to be doing “game-based learning” at some level, and given the many successful Nordic gaming studios (focused mostly on entertainment), this migration towards learning is perhaps not surprising. We hope to get panelists from different sectors—DTC, K12, HE, Corp, Gov—and will discuss issues and developments on both the demand and the supply side of the market place that these companies have experienced.

____________

  1. Session Topic: Future Learning Platforms and Role of Adaptive Learning

Session Abstract: What will new and innovative learning platforms/environments that are emerging, including offering adaptive learning functionality, mean for players in various parts of the edtech ecosystem, as well as for learners in different market segments (including schools, higher education and corporate/government sectors)? Technological progress in recent years promises interesting new capabilities and flexibilities for the development of new ways of creating and delivering education and learning products and services. We will explore some of these issues and developments and what the implications may be for the future.

_______________

  1. Session Topic: EdTech Enabling Smarter Universities: What Digital Transformation of HE means for Nordic Edtech players

Session Abstract: How are edtech companies thinking about “smart universities” and what are they hearing from Higher Education customers that they need, either in terms of making learning more (cost) efficient or more customer/learner friendly? What new edtech technologies may help meet the needs of Higher Ed as they try to become “smarter”?

Tracks description

International guests arriving on June 6th will be invited to a reception with an informal program, at a downtown venue in Kristiansand. A separate registration for that event will be set up. Costs are covered for those who purchase a full venue ticket.

More information will be posted as we near the event.

A limited amount of spaces will be made available for an all-day coastal excursion on June 10th, where we will be treating you to the best of what the South Norway island archipelago can offer • breathtaking views, and a few surprises. In fact, also a guest speaker. And music. And food. Extra costs apply.

More information will be posted as we develop the program. Trust us; this will be fabulous!

Others who are still working will meet for the final leg of our PhD colloquium. Separate information provided for attending PhD students and visiting professors.

Dinner on June 7th will be up to each participant and group to organize. We will provide a map of the city´s restaurants. For those who wish, there will be fingerfood and mingling opportunities at our designated downtown hangout from 19:30 — 21:30 June 7th.

The summit joint dinner on June 8th 19:30 – 23:00 will be held at Christiansholm Fortress, a 400 year old structure looking out over the Kristiansand City Bay. Dinner included in the summit ticket for three-day attendees.

The workshops are organized around three basic tracks: Academic, Entrepreneurship and Lifelong Learning.

The academic track offers presentations that have been approved for our Annual Summit Proceedings. This track also offers presentations of ongoing research, papers in progress – – including PhD project presentations.

The entrepreneurial track is our famed EdTech dive-in, where entrepreneurs from across the entire Nordic region – and more – present their companies, their ideas, their services and their experiences.

The Lifelong Learning track includes projects and presentations from a range of public and commercial fields.

Please review the thematic details below.

We ask you to sign up for the tracks and workshop events that you want early, in order for us to process interest and assign venue spaces accordingly. This is very important for us, so please observe.
